Web 2.0 Applications
Web 2.0
Web 2.0 is a buzzword, created by O’Reilly Media in 2004. It refers to the ’second generation’ of Internet-based services, which allows collaboration and information sharing in new ways.
Flickr
Flickr allows you to upload your own digital photographs and allow (selected) other people to see them. You can browse through other peoples pictures as well.
GMail
This is Google’s online email service. GMail gives you 2GB of storage on Google’s servers - probably enough for the rest of your life, as long as people don’t email you media files. I use GMail as a backup for my office email - everything I receive is backed up by GMail, and I can access it from any PC with an Internet connection. GMail uses my office email address when I use it to send mail. GMail accounts are by invitation only, but every subscriber gets 100 invitations to give out.
Writely
This is a great online word processor. Access your work from any computer, allows collaboration with colleagues.
ZohoWriter
Another online word processor.
Google Spreadsheets
Not very powerful (yet) but nicely implemented..
e2doList
eToDoList allows you to create and update your To-do list from any PC with an Internet connection. It also lets you create notes and store them remotely.
voo2do
Another “To-Do” list.
CalendarHub
Great calendar application.
Google Calendar
Google Calendar is a great way of organising your life. Because it’s hosted on Google’s servers, it allows you to check or update your calendar from any PC with an Internet connection.
Squidoo
User-generated “lenses” about just about any subject.
RateItAll
Lets you rate and review just about anything. Interesting revenue-sharing model.
